Alert & Communications System Lambert St. Louis Airport
The Richardson Engineering Group, Inc. was engaged to plan and implement the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting alert and communications systems for the Lambert-St. Louis Airport.

The project consisted of the installation of the ARFF Emergency Alert System, fire alarm interface, and more than 12,000 feet of figer-optic cables and control systems between the airport control tower and all of the AARF firehouses on the airport.

From the control tower, the system automatically activates a pre-programmed, prerecorded alert message which is sent to each of the fire stations. This in turn sounds alarms and triggers alert lights as well as message readout centers in the buildings.

The system also activates automatic door opening devices for the vehicle bay doors, sends pre-recorded alert warnings, visual message readouts, automatic shutdown of kitchen equipment and illuminates the dormatory area.

It also alerts the ARFF stations as to the nature of the emergency, flight number, passengers on board, runway location, etc. The system incorporates a dedicated crash phone between the control tower and the ARFF stations.

Response time is significantly enhanced and firefighter effectiveness improved by providing vital details of the emergency to the firefighters,
